Avast Won’t Open and Other Errors in Windows 10

You must have tried installing Avast antivirus on your Windows 10 computer and some users might even encounter serious issues with the Avast software Windows 10. One of the most annoying fact is, when Avast won’t open or when Avast does not recognize the Windows system files as part of the OS and tries to delete them. This article guides you on how to fix Avast issues in Windows 10 and which version of the antivirus should be installed. Even if Avast Antivirus is fully-compatible with Windows 10, there are a few errors that continuously occur. Here, you will understand the most common issues reported by users along with their corresponding fix.

It is worth mentioning that certain times Avast Antivirus users experience BSOD errors while they install the latest Windows 10 version on their computer. This problem majorly occurs because of incompatibility issues between Avast drivers and specific CPU models. In order to avoid this problem, you can install the latest Avast version before updating your PC to the latest OS version.

What all Actions to Perform When Avast Won’t Open on Windows 10?

1. Windows 10 Action Center is Unable to Detect Avast

One of the frequent issues with Avast on Windows 10 system is when the Action Center fails to recognize Avast. When that happens, you will surely get some pop-up messages in the down right side of your screen saying that “Windows Defender and Avast Antivirus are both turned off,’ or ‘Windows did not find an antivirus program“. Fortunately, we have a solution for you.

Firstly, we disable the Avast Antivirus and then enable it again. This way you can forcefully ask Windows 10 to recognize it using the given steps:

  • Right-click on the Avast icon displayed on your taskbar.
  • Navigate to Shields Control and select Disable for 10 minutes.
  • Enable it again using the same way and select Enable all shields options.

These actions will help Windows 10 recognize Avast and then you won't find the above-mentioned messages anymore. But, still
if Avast won’t open then you can try some more options. Here's what you need to do next:

  • Firstly, right click on the Start Menu and open Command Prompt (as Admin)
  • Now in the Command Prompt, type winmgmt /verifyrepository and press Enter.
  • If you see ‘WMI repository is consistent -no problems detected,’ then type ‘winmgmt /resetrepository’ and hit Enter.
  • If you see ‘WMI repository is inconsistent -problems detected,’ then type ‘winmgmt /salvagerepository’ and hit Enter.
  • If you see ‘WMI repository has been salvaged – WMI repository has been successfully rebuilt,’ simply continue to the last step.
  • Finally, reset your computer system.

2.Avast Causing Black Screen in Windows 10

Few users also reported that installing Avast on Windows 10 causes black screen issues. Though its not a common issue, but you can surely try this undergiven solution:

  • Launch the Avast user interface by clicking on the Avast icon in the taskbar.
  • Under the Settings tab, click on General option.
  • Navigate to Exclusions options, then click add. Here, you have to add the following address to exclusions:
  • C:WindowsExplorer.exe,’ and ‘C:WindowsImmersiveControlPanelSystemSettings.exe
  • Lastly, restart your computer.
  • Still, if Avast won’t open then jump to the next solution.

3. Avast Antivirus is Unable to Update

Uncertainly, Avast might also fail to update its virus definitions. This turns out to be a major issue as it leaves your computer vulnerable to the latest threats. As if you are unable to install the latest Avast updates, quickly follow the suggestions below:

Update OS: By running outdated Windows versions, you are stoping other apps and programs to work properly. For this, navigate to Settings >> Update & Security >> Windows Updates >> Check for Updates.

Disable firewall/ VPN temporarily: Eventually, your firewall prevents you from installing the latest software updates on your computer. For that, navigate to Start >> enter 'firewall’ >> click on ‘Windows Firewall’ >> click on the option ‘Turn Windows Firewall on and off’ >> Turn off firewall protection.

Clean boot your system: With this solution, you can start Windows 10 using a minimal set of programs and drivers. Remember that software conflict might block Avast updates. To eliminate software conflicts, here are the steps to follow:

  • Enter System Configuration in the search box and press Enter.
  • Under the Services tab, select the Hide all Microsoft services, check box and click on Disable all.
  • In the Startup tab, click on Open Task Manager.
  • Finally, in the Startup tab in Task Manager, you have to select all items and click Disable button.
  • Exit the Task Manager.
  • Restart your computer and check if Avast updates are progressing.

Hope these solutions are able to resolve the "Avast won’t open" problem existing with the systems.
