The ads that Microsoft shows you aren't banners or third-party ads like the ones you see on the website. Some ads have fin facts or suggestions that Microsoft considers useful for the user. However, users always find them irritating. 

These ads introduce nothing new to Windows 11. This operating system has a lot in common with its predecessor. Together with the desktop toasts which show tips and app suggestions, it has a promotional banner for One Drive in File Explorer.

Disabling Ads in Windows 11

If you wish to disable all kinds of ads in Windows 11, you must change a few options in the settings of Windows 11 as well as in File Explorer. Moreover, you need to apply some registry tweaks. 

Disable Ads in File Explorer

Below are the steps that you are required to follow in order to disable ads in file explorer. 

Step 1: Open File Explorer and then press the Windows and E keys simultaneously in the Start menu or taskbar. 

Step 2: Select the see more button that has 3 dots in the toolbar. After that, select Options. 

Step 3: Go to the View tab in the Folder Options dialog box. 

Step 4: Remove the check mark from the show sync provider notification in order to disable ads in File Explorer. 

Step 5: Select OK by going to the Folder Options window. 

Step 6: Open File Explorer again in order to make the existing ads disappear. 

Use a Registry Tweak 

Step 1: First of all, you need to download 2 REG files in the ZIP archive. 

Step 2: Extract REG files to any folder you like. 

Step 3: After that, double-click on Disable_sync_provider_notifications.reg file and then confirm the prompt. 

Step 4: Now, the file explorer will not display any promotional notifications. 

How to Disable Ads on the Lock Screen in Windows 11?

Step 1: Firstly, press the Windows and I keys simultaneously to launch the Settings app. 

Step 2: Select Personalization given at the left. 

Step 3: Choose Lock screen given at the right pane. 

Step 4: After that, uncheck the option Get fun facts, tricks, tips, and more on your lock screen. Please keep in mind that this only happens when the LockScreen background is set to Slideshow or Picture.

Step 3: Double click on your file "Disable_ads_on_lock_scree.reg" to get rid of ads on your lock screen. 

Step 4: Enable_ads_on_lock_screen.reg is going to re-enable extra notifications of lock screen.
