Fix Laptop Speakers not Working Problem:

Laptop speakers not working is pretty frustrating when you are attending a video-conferencing or watching any video on platforms like YouTube. Though there are a few reasons that can be attributable to the malfunctioning speakers ranging from muted audio to a faulty driver, in my case wrong speaker configuration was the prime reason for the laptop speakers not working issue.

I encountered this problem that I could fix by troubleshooting the issue in a variety of ways which are presented here by means of the user-friendly guide presented below for reference.

Unmute the Check-Box of the Speaker

It is generally observed that the audio of your laptop’s speaker is muted. This can be fixed by going on to the system tray on the below-mentioned Taskbar and giving a left-click on the speaker icon.

Now you should unmute the speaker by unchecking the relevant check-box.

Plugging-in the Speakers

You can plug in the AUX cables of your headphones into the relevant jacks of your laptop to ascertain whether the speakers of the laptop have become faulty.

If you are able to listen to the audio through the headset, then your speaker may be requiring a replacement or the drivers of speakers may have become outdated.

Faulty Audio Sensor

Many a time the audio sensor of your laptop may not be functioning well and thus may not be sending audio signals to speakers even when there is no headset connected to the laptop.

This can be fixed by simply plugging in the headset with a twist of the wires or by triggering the audio sensor with the help of a toothpick.

Playback Devices may be Receiving Sound Signals Instead of Speakers

When you use an external monitor or use an external wireless headphone, your laptop recognizes such external devices for the purpose of sending audio signals even when such external devices are disconnected.

For fixing laptop speakers not working with this being the prime reason for no audio, you must configure your laptop speakers as the basic playback device on Windows 10. You can do this by going to the system tray and clicking on the speaker icon and setting your speaker as the playback device.

Troubleshooting the Sound-Related Problems

Quite often the laptop speakers not working issue may be fixed by running a sound troubleshooter. You can perform this troubleshooting by clicking on the speaker icon being displayed on the system tray of the bottommost taskbar.

Further, you will have to click on Troubleshoot Sound Problems to execute the troubleshooting. Consequently, troubleshooting the sound problems will lead to a comprehensive system scan which will also fix the sound-related issues automatically.

Disabling Audio Enhancements

On several occasions, your audio enhancements may be obstructing the speakers to play. Disabling them from the Control Panel may help you fix laptop speakers not working problem.

Just follow the simple steps to disable the audio enhancements.

Step 1 - Open the Control Panel.

Step 2 - Go to Hardware and Sound under Sound options.

Step 3 - Now go to the Playback tab and right-click your Speaker Device to open the Properties.

Step 4 - Then go to the Enhancements tab and check the Disable All Enhancements box.

Checking for the Driver Updates

The outdated drivers may also be the cause of a malfunctioned speaker, which can be fixed by uninstalling the current driver and updating the latest version of the driver sourced from a web server providing free and latest drivers of your laptop’s speaker.
